Darlene's Comments for 2021:
General – Great photos this year. I can see comments from previous years paying off in better use of rule of thirds and depth of field!
Category 1 – I Can Make Tea With This – A Plant from which Tea can be steeped
General – Great photos this year. I can see comments from previous years paying off in better use of rule of thirds and depth of field!
Category 1 – I Can Make Tea With This – A Plant from which Tea can be steeped
- Linda Doig – Nice crisp focus; great depth of field with background out of focus; negative space in neutral colour draws attention to the flower
- Laurel Peever – Great use of rule of thirds to draw attention to the rose hip; lighting works well as it fades darker to the bottom to create negative space; great focus
- Nick Barclay – Great use of rule of thirds with negative space created in left third through use of shadow and depth of field; great focus
- Dianne Wood – Very Pretty photograph with the yellow popping through the soft white; great diagonal rule of thirds usage; crisp focus
- Laurel Peever – Great depth of field and use of negative space in the top of the photo; crisp focus
- Carol Bennewies – This is very appealing to the eye with the curved use of thirds in the garden; the colour is very vibrant and the photo well focused
- David Norman – Interesting use of rule of thirds in this image, both in the vertical thirds but also in the foreground, focal point and background; nice consistent lighting alloews the view beyond the gate to pop through; well focused and framed nicely by the pillars
- Nick Barclay – Very vintage feel to this image and well composed using rule of thirds; I quite enjoy the rose framing the gate and the natural flow of the garden around the gate; crisp focus and great exposure; the pop of yellow is very eye-catching
- Carol Bennewies – Interesting use of rule of thirds by filling 2/3 of the image with the gate itself; the green in the background and to the right allows the gate to stand out; crisp focus
- Nick Barclay – Wonderful use of depth of field in this image, creating negative space in the outside thirds of the photo and making the rose pop; the fact that the red and white are such contrasts draws you in to the image; very crisp focus and well composed
- Dianne Wood – Very soft colouring makes this image elegant, yet the contrast between the pink and green, along with the consistent lighting, allows the rose to be the main focal point; great depth of field and crisp focus
- David Norman – Very crisp focus and pretty with soft colouring; great use of rule of thirds and depth of field; great use of negative space
