September 2013
Life members Margaret & Dick DeJong were awarded a Seaforth Citizenship Award for Civic Service! Both have been involved in this society for decades, sharing their good advice and labour to make our community a beautiful place to live in! Margaret has been president twice, and has headed the Civic Improvement Committee for many years, helping to decide what to plant where, and what new projects to undertake. No matter what this society does, Dick is there to help it happen!

Congratulations you two! We look forward to many more years of your mentorship!

A Grant for the Food Bank!

Over the winter months in 2013 Brenda applied for a couple of grants on behalf of the Seaforth Food Bank Community Garden. The good news is that one of those grants, from the Ontario Horticultural Society in the amount of $500, has come through! The Community Garden can now go ahead with the purchase of a gas powered bed edger and a pile of compost to enrich and expand their beds.
The Community Garden on the arena property is organized by the Seaforth Food Bank and run by volunteers, including Food Bank clients and the Boy Scouts, who plant, tend and harvest the beds. Much of the produce is distributed through the Food Bank. You can get involved by contacting Herb at the Food Bank.
